Getting Through Lifes Storms:
God is always faithfulness even in the midst of storms.

There are several examples of storms in the Bible. Let’s focus on two:

• Matthew 14:22-33 is the story of Peter walking on the water. (look it up!) A storm came up while the disciples were in a boat. They saw Jesus walking on the water towards them and were afraid. Jesus identified Himself and told them take courage and to not be afraid because it was Himself who was walking towards them. Then Peter asked Jesus if he could come onto the water also. And, Jesus told him…”Come”. Although he did well at first, when Peter took his eyes off Jesus and began looking around and saw the storm, he became afraid and began to sink. When we go through storms of life, it can be scary. It our humanness, we become afraid. But notice…when Peter began to sink, Jesus “immediately reached out His hand and caught him.” And, it’s the same for us today because “Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever!” (Hebrews 13:8) When we cry out to Jesus, He’s there for us - immediately!

• Mark 4:35-41, is another example of the disciples in a storm. The disciples were out on the water in a boat again. (look up this scripture - this was our theme in Kid’s Church yesterday). This time, however, Jesus was with them. As a matter of fact, He was sleeping in the boat. A “furious squall” comes up, waves are crashing in the boat and the disciples begin to worry that they are going to drown. They go to Jesus, wake Him up and ask if He doesn’t care if they drown? When we’re in the midst of the storms, sometimes we, too, question God. “Where are You? Don’t You care about what I’m going through? Why don’t You calm this storm like You did for the disciples?” God is always in control. He brings us peace. We need to lay our fears down at His feet, knowing that His plan for us is for good and not for evil; to give us a hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

What is your day/week looking like? Are things calm, or is there a storm brewing? Perhaps you are already in the midst of a storm. No matter what the situation, always remember that Jesus is right there with you - He promised to never leave you or forsake you. (Hebrews 13:5) Face the storm, head on, with Jesus!
