“In everything, give thanks….” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 The verse goes on to say that it is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus. It is God’s will that we are thankful in everything….the good times and in the hard times. How are we doing with this? If you’re like us, it can be hard sometimes. But, He is faithful. So, as you gather around the table this Thanksgiving, give thanks to God in everything!
 
In addition to a little discussion on Thanksgiving, discuss Jesus’ Birth, looking at the angels proclaiming the good news to the shepherds. What a gift He gave to us!.
Read Luke 2:8-20
 
Why did God pick the shepherds? Was it because they were ready to hear some good news? Would they be excited? Would they believe? Imagine what it must have been like for the shepherds when the angels came to proclaim the Good News. How would you feel? What would you be thinking? Would you be thinking of yourself as someone who God favors?
 
The shepherds were not wealthy, they worked long hours, they lived in the fields with their sheep, they spent all their time outdoors, rain or shine, they protected their sheep from wild animals, making sure they had enough food and water.
 
It really shows God’s heart that the first to hear the news of Jesus’ birth were shepherds - people who many times were despised as dirty and seen in lower position. But the Good News is truly for all people!
