The life of Jeremiah is found in the book of Jeremiah. Jeremiah 7-35 tells us God watched what was happening to the people - they weren’t listening to Him. Instead, they were listening to one another and to their own thoughts. So, God instructed Jeremiah to talk to the people. God gave Jeremiah some pretty important things to tell the people. Let’s look at what some of Jeremiah’s warning were and how to apply them to our lives:
•
God is more important than the temple or church building - the people were going into the temple; they were doing all the things that they were supposed to do in the temple. Jeremiah warned the people that just walking through the doors of the temple and sitting there was not all that God wanted. God wanted them to really live for Him, not just go through the motions of going to the temple.
•
We worship God by the way we live - the people who Jeremiah talked to would go into the temple, but then, when they left the temple, they weren’t living the way God wanted them to. God wants us to worship Him at church, but He also wants us to worship Him in everything we do throughout the week. God wants our worship to be a 24/7/365 thing, not just an hour on Sunday mornings!
•
We need to stay committed to God - God doesn’t want us deciding to follow Him and then change our mind...He doesn’t want us worshipping Him at church and then walking out the doors and acting like we’ve never heard about Him. He is the Creator of the universe and deserves our commitment all the time. He wants to be first place in our lives all the time.
•
Things get really messed up when we don’t follow God - Jeremiah warned the people how things were going to get messed up if they didn’t follow God. He told them if they didn’t follow God they were going to become slaves (yoked) to their enemies and their country would be scattered like broken pieces of pottery. When we’re not following God..when we’re not praying...when we’re not relying on the Bible to help us...when we’re not worshipping...when we’re not thinking of others before ourselves, we’re going to get messed up. Just like Jeremiah warned the people long ago, we’re no different today. The warnings are the same for us today!

God wants to help us clean up our messes - God has great things for us if we would just follow Him! That’s what Jeremiah wanted the people to really hear. He warned them to leave the ways they were living, put God first, because if they did, God had great things for them.
